A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N177DN performing flight DL-68 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to Portland,OR (USA) with 210 passengers and 11 crew, was enroute at FL350 over the Pacific Ocean about 550nm southwest of Cold Bay,AK (USA) when the crew needed to shut an engine (CF6) down. The aircraft drifted down to FL240 and turned northeast to divert to Cold Bay, where the aircraft landed safely about 90 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 767-300 registration N1607B was dispatched from Seattle,WA (USA) to Cold Bay, resumed the flight and reached Portland with a delay of 10 hours.

The airline reported a mechanical issue in flight.

The FAA reported an engine issue.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Cold Bay awaiting an engine change.
