A United Boeing 767-300, registration N659UA performing flight UA-972 from Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) to Brussels (Belgium), was enroute at FL330 about 60nm northwest of Goose Bay,NL (Canada) when the crew decided to return to Chicago due to the failure of the anti-ice systems on the right hand engine (PW4060). The aircraft descended to FL320 for the flight back and landed safely in Chicago about 3 hours after turning around.

The flight was cancelled.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground 15 hours after landing.
