An Air Canada Rouge Boeing 767-300, registration C-FIYE performing flight RV-1864 from Toronto,ON (Canada) to Orlando,FL (USA) with 223 people on board, was enroute at FL380 about 300nm north of Orlando when the crew received a forward lavatory smoke indication, cabin crew confirmed the smell of hot burning plastic in the lavatory which was also present near seat rows 12-15. No hot spots and no source of the odour could be identified. The flight crew declared PAN, the aircraft landed in Orlando with emergency services on standby about 50 minutes later. Emergency services could not locate any fire, heat or smoke, the aircraft taxied to the gate.

Canada's TSB reported that thermal imaging also could not identify any anomaly and the aircraft was returned to service.

The occurrence aircraft departed for the return flight about 2.5 hours after landing and reached Toronto with a delay of 70 minutes. The aircraft remained on the ground in Toronto for 9 hours, then resumed service.
