An Exploits Valley Air Services Beech 1900D, registration C-GERI performing flight 8K-173 from Gander,NL to Moncton,NB (Canada) with 2 crew, was in the initial climb out of Gander when the crew heard flapping noises and determined the pitot covers had remained installed, however, the instruments were indicating normally on both sets except for some fluctuations on the vertical speed. The crew decided to return to Gander for a safe landing.

The Canadian TSB reported maintenance found the pitot covers had burned off with pitot anti ice heating applied, likely already during taxi for departure. The aircraft was examined and returned to service.
