A JAL Japan Airlines Boeing 777-300, registration JA740J performing flight JL-6 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 247 passengers and 18 crew, was enroute over the Pacific Ocean near the Aleutian Islands about 3 hours into the flight when the airline received an e-mail indicating a bomb was on board of the aircraft. The aircraft turned around and returned to Tokyo Narita for a safe landing about 6 hours after departure.

A search of aircraft, passengers and luggage found no trace of explosives.

A replacement Boeing 777-300 registration JA738J reached New York with a delay of 11 hours.
