A Lufthansa Airbus A330-300, registration D-AIKQ performing flight LH-415 from Washington Dulles,DC (USA) to Munich (Germany), was enroute at FL370 about 70nm southwest of Sydney,NS (Canada) when the crew declared PAN, PAN, PAN due to smoke from a coffee maker, that had overheated and could not be turned off. The crew decided to divert to Boston,MA (USA), climbed the aircraft to FL380 for the diversion and landed safely in Boston about 70 minutes after turning around.

A passenger reported there was a burning smell on board of the aircraft prompting the diversion to Boston.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Boston for 16 hours, then continued the flight and reached Munich with a delay of 18 hours.
