A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700, registration N917WN performing flight WN-775 from Tampa,FL to San Antonio,TX (USA) with 125 passengers and 5 crew, was enroute at FL400 about 170nm southeast of New Orleans,LA (USA) when the crew initiated an emergency descent (average rate of descent 4000fpm) due to the loss of cabin pressure. The aircraft diverted to New Orleans for a safe landing on runway 02 about 35 minutes after leaving FL400.

A replacement Boeing 737-700 registration N7747C reached San Antonio with a delay of 5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 17 hours before resuming service.
