A Helvetic Fokker 100 on behalf of Swiss, registration HB-JVG performing flight LX-2250 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Budapest (Hungary), was enroute at FL350 about 70nm southeast of Salzburg (Austria) when the crew decided to return to Zurich due to a problem with the ground spoilers. On approach to Zurich ATC queried whether it was a hydraulic problem, the crew answered no, the "lift dumpers" (ground spoilers) were inoperative and would not extend for landing. The aircraft landed safely on Zurich's runway 14 about 90 minutes after departure.

The flight was cancelled.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 3.5 hours, then resumed service.
