A United Boeing 767-300, registration N642UA performing flight UA-929 from London Heathrow,EN (UK) to Chicago O'Hare,IL (USA) with 120 passengers and 11 crew, was enroute at FL320 about 50nm west of Edinburgh,SC (UK) when the crew reported a possible fuel issue and decided to divert to Edinburgh. The aircraft landed safely on Edinburgh's runway 24 about one hour later. After landing the crew requested emergency services to inspect the right hand side of the aircraft.

The remainder of the flight was cancelled.

On Nov 10th 2016 the AAIB released their bulletin reporting that a passenger notified the crew of a fuel leak at the right hand wing, the crew confirmed the leak was coming from the over the wing fuel filler cap. The aircraft returned for a safe landing and was towed to the apron, where passengers disembarked normally.

Maintenance replaced the fuel filler cap and no further leaks were observed over night.

The following day the aircraft departed for a ferry flight to Chicago with the same flight and cabin crew but no passengers on board, when cabin crew again detected fuel leaking from the right hand wing. Following return and landing maintenance detected a damaged O-ring in the over wing fueling port.
