A KLM Boeing 777-300, registration PH-BVP performing flight KL-701 (dep Jul 8th) from Amsterdam (Netherlands) to Buenos Aires,BA (Argentina), was enroute at FL340 about 110nm southwest of Recife,PE (Brazil) when the crew initiated a descent to FL220 due to problems with the right hand engine's (GE90) oil quantity and power reduction on that engine. The aircraft subsequently diverted to Rio de Janeiro,RJ (Brazil) for a safe landing on Galeao Airport's runway 15 about 2.5 hours after leaving FL340.

A passenger reported the crew indicated a leak and failure of a hydraulic system.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 3 hours, then was able to continue the flight to Buenos Aires, where the aircraft arrived with a delay of 3.5 hours.
