A Brussels Airlines Avro RJ-100, registration OO-DWI performing flight SN-2049 from Brussels (Belgium) to Birmingham,EN (UK), was enroute at FL250 about 20nm east of Southend,EN (UK) when the crew decided to return to Brussels reporting a technical reason. The aircraft was on final approach to Brussels' runway 25R when the crew initiated a go around reporting they lost the localizer and the glideslope during the approach. The crew positioned for another ILS approach to runway 25R reporting all indications appeared normal now. The crew however needed to go around again reporting they didn't have a glideslope and didn't acquire visual contact with the runway at the LOC approach minima, they thought it was an instrument problem on board of the aircraft, not a problem of the ILS. Other crews chimed in suggesting whether a surveillance radar approach would help, the controller declined stating the minima for talking the aircraft in would be the same as for the LOC approach. The aircraft positioned for another approach to runway 25L but again needed to go around. The crew considered to attempt an approach to runway 01 but subsequently decided to divert to Lille (France) where the aircraft landed safely on runway 26 about 25 minutes after the third go-around at Brussels.

The occurrence aircraft was able to position to Brussels about 17 hours after landing in Lille.
