The airport needed to switch all operations to the secondary runway 14/32 for 15 hours until the tyres were replaced and the A330 was towed off the runway.
A passenger reported there was fire observed at the landing gear, emergency services responded and foamed the landing gear. The crew handled the scary situation calmly and kept all passengers safe.
A ground observer reported it appeared a number of tyres burst resulting in a small fire at the landing gear.
Emergency services reported they were alerted after the aircraft had landed.
The airline reported there was no problem prior to touch down. The return flight LH-765 was cancelled, the 223 passengers were taken to hotels.
