A Polar Air Cargo Boeing 747-400 freighter, registration N473MC performing freight flight PO-654 from Hong Kong (China) to Seoul (South Korea), was in the initial climb out of Hong Kong's runway 07R when the crew advised they needed to return to Hong Kong, stopped the climb at about 7000 feet and returned to Hong Kong. The crew advised they had received a cargo hold fire warning, they needed the fire engines, it appeared to be small but they needed to land. The aircraft landed safely on runway 07R about 13 minutes after departure and vacated the runway. Emergency services did not find any trace of fire, heat or smoke, the aircraft taxied to the apron.

Emergency services reported the crew advised of a cargo hold fire indication. No evidence of a fire was discovered, no damage occurred to the aircraft.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground for 17.5 hours, then departed again.
