An Air Berlin Airbus A330-200, registration D-ALPE performing flight AB-7495 from Abu Dhabi (United Arab Emirates) to Berlin Tegel (Germany), was enroute at FL380 about 30nm east of Kermanshah (Iran) when the crew decided to turn around and divert to Kuwait (Kuwait) due to electronic problems. The aircraft landed safely in Kuwait about one hour later.

The aircraft remained on the ground for about 5.5 hours, then departed again but returned to Abu Dhabi, where the aircraft landed safely about 9.5 hours after departure.

A passenger reported the crew initially announced that they were dealing with a technical problem and needed to divert to Kuwait. In Kuwait the passengers were asked to disembarked into the terminal. A few hours later the passengers were asked back on board with the announcement, that the aircraft was now repaired, however, due to crew duty time limitation they were not able to continue to Germany but were returning to Abu Dhabi. The captain subsequently announced, that they had dealt with an electronic problem, one of the bord computers was replaced, the repair took longer than expected however and they had run out of crew duty time. The remaining 1.5 hours they had would be used to return to Abu Dhabi, where better possibilities existed to organize flights to Germany. The passenger made it to Berlin on board of another aircraft (A332 D-ALPC) with the same crew the following day with a total delay of 28 hours.

Following the last exchange with Air Berlin's press office, see Accident: Berlin A320 near Nantes on Apr 2nd 2016, first officer incapacitated by fumes Air Berlin's Senior Vice President Communications pledged "In diesem Sinne freue ich mich auf eine konstruktive Zusammenarbeit in der Zukunft" (In this sense I look forward to a constructive cooperation in the future), but did not respond to an inquiry regarding the Bahrain diversion transmitted 24 hours ago (delaying our coverage for as much time in the hope that Air Berlin, other than so far, would begin to respond to such inquiries).
