Vueling A320 at Bilbao on Mar 28th 2016, temporary runway excursion during landing

A Vueling Airbus A320-200, registration EC-MGE performing flight VY-1420 from Barcelona,SP to Bilbao,SP (Spain) with 109 passengers and 6 crew, aborted the first approach to Bilbao's runway 30 due to winds, climbed back to FL080 and entered a hold. About 30 minutes later the aircraft positioned for another approach to runway 30, touched down at about 08:52L (06:52Z) but veered left beyond the runway edge and took a number of runway edge lights and a runway sign out before returning to the runway center line. The aircraft vacated the runway at the last taxiway at the end and taxied to the apron. There were no injuries, the aircraft received damage to the left hand engine cowling and left hand main gear.

Spain's AENA reported that the aircraft even rolled over soft ground before returning onto the runway and took a number of runway edge lights out.

The airline said, the aircraft never departed paved surface, however confirmed the aircraft went beyond the runway edge due to a wind gust stating, the aircraft was literally blown towards the runway edge.

Spain's CIAIAC opened an investigation into the occurrence.

The occurrence aircraft remained on the ground in Bilbao for 6 days 10 hours, then positioned to Barcelona and resumed service.

On Apr 8th 2016 Spain's CIAIAC released a first notice stating, that the aircraft had gone around, chose runway 30 for the second approach but was unable to maintain trajectory on the center line of the runway and went beyond the left edge of the runway with the left main gear before returning onto the runway and stopping on the runway. There were no injuries, aircraft and airport facilities sustained minor damage.
