A Ryanair Boeing 737-800, registration EI-DWZ performing flight FR-3445 from Manchester,EN (UK) to Palma Mallorca,SP (Spain), departed Manchester's runway 23L when a bird impacted the aircraft. The crew stopped the climb at 3500 feet, burned off fuel and returned to Manchester for a safe landing on runway 23R about one hour after departure.

Ground witnesses observing the initial climb out reported unusual engine sounds, the right hand engine (CFM56) seemed to have been affected.

The airline reported the aircraft received a minor bird strike.
