A Cathay Pacific Boeing 777-300, registration B-KPF performing flight CX-379 from Hong Kong (China) to Dusseldorf (Germany), was enroute at FL380 about 2 hours prior to estimated landing when the crew noticed decreasing oil levels for the left hand engine (GE90). During the descent towards Dusseldorf the crew needed to shut the engine down due to a low oil pressure and low oil quantity indication. The aircraft landed safely on Dusseldorf's runway 05R.

The return flight CX-376 was cancelled.

The engine needs to be replaced. The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Dusseldorf 10 days later.
