A Kuwait Airways Boeing 777-200, registration 9K-AOA performing flight KU-117 from Kuwait (Kuwait) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 203 passengers, was enroute at FL360 about 180nm southeast of Frankfurt/Main (Germany) when the crew initiated a diversion to Frankfurt due to engine (GE90) problems. The aircraft landed safely in Frankfurt about 40 minutes later.

The passengers were taken to hotels.

The aircraft was able to continue the flight 22 hours after landing and reached New York with a delay of 26 hours.

The airline reported that the aircraft was forced to divert to Frankfurt due to a bird strike making a borescopic inspection of the engine necessary. The passengers were taken to hotels until the aircraft was ready to continue the flight.
