A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N1610D performing flight DL-126 from New York JFK,NY (USA) to Madrid,SP (Spain) with 217 people on board, was enroute at FL360 about 120nm southeast of Boston,MA (USA) when the crew declared Mayday reporting they had explosives on board and requested to return to JFK requesting runway 22R due to an overweight landing. The crew subsequently reported they had found a suspicious device on board with wires. The aircraft turned around and returned to New York's JFK airport for a VOR/DME approach runway 13R and safe landing on runway 13R about 50 minutes after turning around, stopped on the adjacent taxiway and shut down both engines to permit emergency services to inspect the aircraft.

Authorities reported no trace of explosives were found on board of the aircraft. The wires did not belong to the aircraft however, two passengers were questioned however no arrest was made.
