An Easyjet Airbus A320-200, registration G-EZTL performing flight U2-8835 from London Gatwick,EN (UK) to Antalya (Turkey) with 30 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL390 about 155nm northnorthwest of Sofia (Bulgaria), in Romanian Airspace, when the crew reported a strong burning odour in the flight deck and forward part of the cabin and decided to divert to Sofia advising air traffic control, that there was no trace of fire, just the strong burning odour. Air Traffic Control in disbelief checked whether there were really just 30 passengers on board, which the crew affirmed. The aircraft landed safely on Sofia's runway 27 about 30 minutes after leaving FL390.

A replacement Airbus A320-200 registration G-EZUG was dispatched to Sofia and reached Antalya with a delay of 4.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft departed Sofia after about 5 hours on the ground and positoned back to London Gatwick.
