A SAA South African Airways Airbus A330-200, registration ZS-SXW performing flight SA-284 from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Mumbai (India), was enroute when a male passenger, member of South Africa's parliament representing Gauteng Province and part of a parliamentary delegation travelling to India, became increasingly intoxicated and attempted to open the aircraft door. The unruly passenger was overpowered, the aircraft continued to Mumbai where the aircraft landed safely. India's police took the unruly passenger into custody for a number of hours before sending him back home.

South Africa's COPE confirmed a member of their parliamentary party behaved badly on board and attempted to open an aircraft door after obviously having had a few drinks too many.

The airline confirmed there had been such an incident on board of their aircraft.
