The airline confirmed there was just a mechanics on board to perform a landing gear check when the nose gear retracted.
A replacement A330-300 registration 9V-STL reached Hong Kong with a delay of about 1 hours.
On Oct 13th 2015 The Aviation Herald learned that the aircraft had arrived in Singapore with a Landing Gear Control and Interface Unit(LGCIU) #2 fault, that had been deferred earlier. The time between arrival and scheduled departure was sufficient to replace the LGCIU #2. The landing gear pins were not inserted into any of the gear assemblies during that work. The aircraft was subsequently programmed to assume to be in the air to simulate the landing gear retraction and extension, however, as the gear pins had not been inserted the nose gear retracted when the landing gear lever was selected up. The aircraft sustained damage to the nose landing gear doors and the L1 passenger door, the engines were not damaged. The aircraft was lifted and towed to a maintenance hangar where it is going to be repaired. Singapore's AAIB is investigating.
