A Polar Air Cargo Boeing 747-400 freighter, registration N454PA performing freight flight PO-963 from Leipzig (Germany) to Seoul (South Korea), departed Leipzig's runway 08L and was climbing out of Leipzig when a runway inspection found the debris of a tyre on the runway, which was identified to belong to a B744. The crew was informed, stopped the climb at FL130 and entered a hold to assess the options. The crew decided to divert to Dresden (Germany) due to fog in Leipzig and performed a low approach to Dresden's runway 22 about 2 hours after departure which confirmed the aft left tyre of the right body gear had blown. The crew climbed the aircraft to FL160, dumped fuel, and as the weather had improved in Leipzig, returned to Leipzig for a safe landing on Leipzig's runway 08R about 3:10 hours after departure.
