Shenzhen A320 near Guangzhou on Jul 26th 2015, passenger attempts to set aircraft alight

A Shenzhen Airlines Airbus A320-200, registration B-6613 performing flight ZH-9648 (scheduled dep Jul 25th, actual dep Jul 26th) from Taizhou to Guangzhou (China) with 95 passengers and 9 crew, was on approach to Guangzhou when a passenger began to handle gasoline and a lighter and managed to set a fire. Surrounding passengers and cabin crew managed to to overpower the man and extinguish the fire. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Guangzhou's runway 02R a few minutes later, the aircraft was evacuated via slides after landing. Two passengers received minor injuries in the evacuation.

Guangzhou's police confirmed the passenger attempted arson, the passenger was arrested.

On Jul 28th 2015 China's Civil Aviation Authority (CAAC) suspended the operation of Taizhou Airport by Jul 29th 2015, a team to reestablish security has been dispatched to Taizhou. On Jul 29th 2015 the Airport Authority dismissed all security personnel.

On Jul 29th 2015 the CAAC commended cabin and flight crew of flight ZH-9648 and awarded a total of 300,000 yuan (43,700 Euros, 48,300 US$) to the crew. Two courageous passengers, who had helped to overpower the arsonist, were commended and awarded 30,000 yuan (4,370 Euros, 4,830 US$) each, too.
