A Nolinor Boeing 737-200, registration C-GTUK performing flight NRL-790 from Kitchener,ON to Iqaluit,NU (Canada) with 39 people on board, was on approach to Iqaluit's runway 16, half of which had been closed all along the runway's length with temporary runway edge lights at the runway's original center line. The crew did not detect that the width of the runway had been reduced nor did the crew notice the edge lights along the original center line. Just before touchdown the crew recognized the lights on the original center line and performed a maneouver to laterally offset the aircraft onto the open width of the runway, the aircraft however struck some of the temporary runway edge lights, touched down and rolled out without further incident.

NAV Canada reported a ground staff reported the broken runway edge lights, the crew subsequently inquired whether they had run over runway lights, they had received a flat tyre.

The Canadian TSB reported that the damage was minor limited to the flat tyre and to the broken edge lights.

A very similiar occurrence happened 3 days later, see: Incident: Canadian North B732 at Iqaluit on Jul 11th 2015, runway excursion on half width runway.

Runway re-surfacing works had commenced in June and are estimated to last until August.
