A Southwest Airlines Boeing 737-700, registration N785SW performing flight WN-4649 from Las Vegas,NV to Baltimore,MD (USA) with 139 passengers, was enroute at FL390 about 100nm westnorthwest of Salina,KS (USA) when the crew received a wheel well fire indication and diverted to Salina for a safe landing on runway 12 about 20 minutes later. Attending emergency services found no trace of fire, heat or smoke.

The airline confirmed the crew received indication of a possible wheel well fire, on the ground there was no evidence of a fire, the passengers disembarked normally via stairs. 4 passengers decided to not continue their journey, the remaining 135 passengers were taken to Dallas Love,TX (USA) by a replacement aircraft to continue their journey from there. The passengers were provided with accomodation over night in Dallas and reached Baltimore on Jul 3rd 19:00L with a delay of 18.5 hours.

A replacement Boeing 737-700 registration N759GS was dispatched to Salina and performed flight WN-8863 from Salina to Dallas Love reaching Dallas about 3.5 hours past scheduled arrival at Baltimore.
