A passenger reported the crew announced there had been a problem with the air conditioning systems, in addition there was a problem with the APU. They diverted to Sydney dumping fuel on the way there.
The airline reported a mechanical issue, the passengers have been supplied with a complimentary lunch.
The aircraft was able to depart Sydney after about 7 hours on the ground, climbed to FL350 and is currently estimated to reach Los Angeles with a delay of 8:15 hours.
