A Hainan Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration B-5835 performing flight HU-7187 from Beijing to Wuhan (China), was on approach to Wuhan when the aircraft was struck by lightning. Waiting for better weather the crew entered a hold but then needed to divert to Changsa (China) about 160nm southsoutheast of Wuhan where the aircraft landed safely.

The aircraft remained on the ground in Changsa for 28 hours, then positioned to Hainan but has not yet returned to service 40 hours after landing.
