An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N371AA performing flight AA-9253 from Miami,FL to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 231 people on board, was descending through about FL230 towards New York when the crew declared emergency reporting they were losing fluid from their center hydraulic system. The aircraft accelerated the approach on a direct vector to the approach fix and landed safely on JFK's runway 22L about 20 minutes later.

The aircraft still transponded callsign AA-203 but used radio callsign American 9253 after it had arrived into Miami from Porto Alegre,RS (Brazil) earlier.
