A Mesa Airlines Canadair CRJ-900 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N922FJ performing flight YV-5348/AA-5348 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX to El Paso,TX (USA) with 79 passengers and 4 crew, was climbing out of Dallas Fort Worth's runway 18L when a part was observed dropping off the aircraft's rudder and the crew received an abnormal cockpit indication. The aircraft stopped the climb at 10,000 feet and returned to Dallas Ft. Worth for a safe landing about 25 minutes after departure.

The airline reported a possible mechanical and maintenance issue, the cause of the problem is under investigation.
