An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N39356 performing flight AA-203 from Curitiba,PR to Porto Alegre,RS (Brazil), was on final approach to Porto Alegre's runway 11 at about 01:44L (03:44Z) when the crew went around from low height (about 300 feet AGL), not providing a reason, and entered a right hand downwind for another approach. Established again on short final to runway 11 the crew again went around stating "sorry, we have to do this again", joined another right downwind and landed safely on runway 11 about 15 minutes after aborting the first approach. The crew subsequently reported they had been distracted by quite a few laser beams to both sides of the approach path.

Local media reported residents were concerned over the low flying aircraft in the middle of the night.
