A United Boeing 757-300, registration N77867 performing flight UA-1564 from Washington Dulles,DC to San Francisco,CA (USA) with 158 people on board, was climbing out of Dulles Airport's runway 30 when the crew stopped the climb at 4000 feet and requested to join a hold reporting they had just lost their left hydraulic system. The aircraft returned to Dulles Airport for a safe landing on runway 01R about 30 minutes after departure and stopped on the runway. Emergency services attended to hot brakes that had gone into the red but were coming down soon after. Emergency services reported one of the right hand main gear tyres had blown.

The flight was cancelled "due to crew availability" (according to United flight status).
