A US Airways Boeing 767-200, registration N256AY performing flight US-711 from Zurich (Switzerland) to Philadelphia,PA (USA), was enroute at FL350 about 160nm northwest of Goose Bay,NL (Canada), when ATC queried flight US-701, Boeing 767-200 registration N250AY from Frankfurt/Main (Germany) to Philadelphia, whether they were able to climb to FL390. The crew of US-711 accepted the clearance and climbed the aircraft to FL390 through the track of an Austrian Airlines Boeing 777-200 registration OE-LPA performing flight OS-87 from Vienna (Austria) to New York JFK,NY (USA) enroute at FL360. After being clear of conflict all aircraft continued to their destinations for safe landings.

The Canadian TSB reported that the separation between N256AY and OE-LPA reduced to 3.6nm horizontally at the same altitude with both aircraft moving into the same direction.
