A Swiss Avro RJ-100, registration HB-IXU performing flight LX-460 from Zurich (Switzerland) to London City,EN (UK), was climbing out of Zurich's runway 28 when the crew requested to stop the climb at 5000 feet and entered a hold due to the right hand main gear not indicating up and locked. The aircraft joined the hold at 7000 feet for about 15 minutes, the crew indicated they needed to return and advised to expect an ILS approach to runway 16, low visibility procedures in use. The crew subsequently advised the gear was down safely and locked, no assistance on the ground needed. The aircraft landed safely on runway 16 about 30 minutes after departure and taxied to the apron.

The flight was cancelled.

A passenger reported the crew announced they entered a hold due to an unsafe gear indication. Some time later, after working the checklists, the crew announced they needed to return to Zurich, the gear was extended and locked, the aircraft landed safely. Emergency services checked the aircraft after landing. The passenger annotated: "Not all passengers could be rebooked as all flights were full".
