An ANA All Nippon Airways Boeing 767-300, registration JA8669 performing flight NH-565 from Tokyo Haneda to Kochi (Japan) with 277 people on board, completed a seemingly uneventful flight.

A post flight inspection by a ground engineer revealed however that a panel from the connection of the left hand wing and engine, about 2 meters long and between 10 and 30cm wide, was missing from the aircraft. A search for the part on the runways at Tokyo and Kochi was not successful.

The airline reported the panel, about 2 meters long, about 10 to 30 cms wide (varying width) and a few millimeters thick, weight about 100 to 200 grams, covering where the left hand wing and the engine connect, went missing and has not been found, it probably separated somewhere enroute. An examination is under way.

The occurrence aircraft resumed service about 47 hours after landing.
