A Qatar Airways Boeing 777-300, registration A7-BAW performing flight QR-900 from Doha (Qatar) to Perth,WA (Australia), was enroute at FL310 about 190nm westsouthwest of Colombo (Sri Lanka) when the crew decided to divert to Colombo due to a suspected fuel leak from the left hand engine (GE90). The aircraft landed safely on Colombo's runway 22 about 30 minutes later.

A replacement Boeing 777-300 registration A7-BAU was dispatched to Colombo, resumed the flight and reached Perth with a delay of 10:15 hours.

Passengers reported the captain announced there was an indicator problem, however did not mention what indicator. The flight attendants were monitoring the left hand wing.

A listener on frequency reported the crew were reporting a possible issue with the fuel quantity indicator.

The occurrence aircraft was able to position back to Doha departing Colombo about 9 hours after landing. The aircraft remained on the ground in Doha for another 24 hours before resuming service.
