An American Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N373AA performing flight AA-916 from Bogota (Colombia) to Miami,FL (USA), was climbing through FL250 out of Bogota when a loud bang occurred from the underside and right hand side of the aircraft, the crew received indication that the right hand overwing slide had deployed in flight with the right hand emergency exits firmly closed. The slide subsequently separated from the aircraft.

A passenger reported there had been a loud bang from the underside/right hand of the aircraft. Flight attendants subsequently inspected the right hand wing and commented that the slide had deployed.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration N673AN, that had just arrived as AA-915 and was scheduled to perform AA-1130 the following day, resumed the flight and reached Miami with a delay of 7 hours.

A replacement Boeing 757-200 registration N172AJ positioned from Miami to Bogota as AA-9609 and performed that flight AA-1130 on schedule the following day.

The incident aircraft was ferried to Tulsa,OK (USA) for repairs of damage to the wing and right hand fuselage as flight AA-9668 the following day.
