A Delta Airlines Boeing 767-300, registration N194DN performing flight DL-208 from Tokyo Narita (Japan) to San Francisco,CA (USA) with 167 passengers and 11 crew, was enroute at FL350 over the Pacific Ocean about 600nm south of Cold Bay,AK (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Cold Bay after an engine (PW4060) had automatically shut down. The aircraft drifted down to FL215 and landed safely at Cold Bay about 1:45 hours later.

The airline initially reported an engine indication prompting the crew to divert to Cold Bay out of abundance of caution, later confirmed an engine automatically shut down in flight although there was no engine failure involved. The cause of the shutdown is under investigation.

A Boeing 767-300 registration N1611B has been dispatched to Cold Bay as flight DL-9932 and is currently about to reach the top of descent. The aircraft is currently estimated to reach San Francisco with a delay of 12 hours.

The passengers and crew were able to get off the aircraft to stretch their legs while at the ground in Cold Bay, which suddenly grew from a population of about 60 people to about 240 people.
