On approach the crew requested the ambulance to meet the aircraft immediately after turning off the runway with stairs ready there, ATC advised the ambulance would not be able to make it in time and the ambulance would meet the aircraft at the gate and enter the aircraft with a stretcher through the jetway. The aircraft landed safely on runway 06 about 20 minutes (!) after the decision to divert. The patient however had to be pronounced dead upon arrival.

A replacement crew was flown in, the aircraft reached Brussels with a delay of 6:45 hours.
