An Air France Airbus A380-800, registration F-HPJE performing flight AF-66 from Paris Charles de Gaulle (France) to Los Angeles,CA (USA) with 465 passengers and 23 crew, was on final approach to Los Angeles' runway 24R descending through 2000 feet when the crew declared PAN PAN due to a flaps problem and went around maintaining present altitude of 2000 feet on controller instruction. After being clear of conflicting traffic the aircraft climbed to 5000 feet with the intention to enter a hold to work the checklists for the flaps problem. After holding for about 20 minutes the aircraft commenced an approach to runway 25L and landed safely at a normal speed about 30 minutes after going around.

The return flight AF-65 was cancelled.

The incident aircraft is still on the ground in Los Angeles about 24 hours later.
