A United Boeing 737-900, registration N39461 performing flight UA-1603 from Houston,TX to Seattle,WA (USA) with 161 passengers and 6 crew, was enroute at FL340 about 70nm northeast of Boise,ID when the first officer reported the captain was incapacitated and decided to divert to Boise. On descent towards Boise the first officer requested an ambulance and air stairs to the runway, he would vacate the runway and stop right after exiting the runway. The aircraft landed safely on runway 10L about 17 minutes after leaving FL340 and stopped on the taxiway adjacent to the runway. The captain was taken to a local hospital but died there as result of a cardiac arrest.

The airline confirmed the captain of the flight died in hospital.

Passengers reported that a request was made for doctors on board, two people responded. The captain was taken out of the cockpit and to the first class cabin, where cardiopulmonary resuscitation was provided to the captain, an announcement of a minor emergency was made.

A replacement crew continued the flight, the incident aircraft reached Seattle with a delay of 4 hours.
