The airline confirmed 39 injuries as result of the turbulence encounter.
Passengers reported that the fasten seat belt signs had already been illuminated for a while but a number of passengers were still around the aisles of the aircraft or had not secured their seat belts when the turbulence caused all loose items and unsecured humans to lift off, impact the ceiling causing the damage to the overhead lockers and ceiling panels, and fall back onto the floor again.
In their weekly bulletin the French BEA reported on Oct 22nd 2013, that the aircraft suddenly encountered unstable convective air masses and a violent disturbance that lasted for 2-3 seconds, then the aircraft was out of severe weather again. Some parts of the overhead bins were broken, one person of 530 people aboard received serious injuries.
