An Air Algerie Airbus A330-200, registration 7T-VJZ performing flight AH-4063 from Dubai (United Arab Emirates) to Algiers (Algeria) with 218 people on board, was enroute at FL380 about 280nm south of Athens (Greece) when the crew initiated an emergency descent due to the failure of the air conditioning system #1 and the loss of cabin pressure. The passenger oxygen masks were released. After levelling off at FL110 the air conditioning system recovered, the crew climbed the aircraft to FL240 during the diversion to Athens, where the aircraft landed safely on runway 03L about 50 minutes later.

On Aug 27th 2013 the French BEA reported in their weekly bulletin that the air conditioning system #1 recovered during the descent through FL150 and the pressurization system returned to normal operation.

The incident aircraft flew to Algiers as flight AH-7003 after about 14.5 hours on the ground in Athens and climbed to FL380.
