An American Airlines Boeing 777-200, registration N796AN performing flight AA-70 from Dallas Ft. Worth,TX (USA) to Frankfurt/Main (Germany), was preparing for departure, the departure however was halted after a hole in the leading edge of the right hand wing was discovered. The passengers disembarked.

A replacement Boeing 777-200 registration N751AN reached Frankfurt with a delay of 2:45 hours.

A passenger booked on AA-70 reported that boarding had been completed when the captain announced he had received a maintenance indication and needed maintenance to check the indication out. About an hour later the captain announced that maintenance had discovered a hole in a wing as result of a bird strike on a previous flight and requested all passengers to disembark and wait for the replacement aircraft.

N796AN had arrived in Dallas Ft. Worth on flight AA-37 from Madrid,SP (Spain) the day before (Jun 23rd). The aircraft remained on the ground for about 30 hours following the discovery of the hole before departing to the next flight.
