A Transaero Boeing 777-200, registration EI-UNW performing flight UN-1111 from Moscow Vnukovo (Russia) to New York JFK,NY (USA) with 221 passengers, was climbing through FL230 out of Moscow's Vnukovo Airport when the crew received a fire indication for the left hand engine (PW4090), shut the engine down, activated the engine fire suppression system and diverted to Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport for a safe landing about 40 minutes after departure and 25 minutes after stopping the climb.

Maintenance determined the fire indication was false as result of the malfunction of electronic circuitry.

On May 29th 2013 the NTSB reported that the left hand engine showed increased EGT temperatures and vibrations later followed by an engine fire indication. The crew shut the engine down and diverted to Sheremetyevo Airport. A post flight inspection revealed no trace of fire, but three broken stage 2 turbine blades.
