A Cabo Verde Express Let L-410, registration D4-CBL performing a charter flight from Praia (Cape Verde) to an unknown destination, was in the initial climb out of Praia through about 500 feet when the left hand engine (M601E) failed and needed to be shut down. The crew stopped the climb, decided to return to Praia and positioned for the approach, but found the control levers for the right hand engine jammed preventing the power to be reduced. Using "surrogate" methods of controlling the engine the crew managed a safe landing.

Czech's Accident Investigation Institute UZPLN reported in their quarterly bulletin, that the UPLN have appointed an accredited representative to the investigation of the serious incident and provides M601E engine expertise to Cape Verde. Flight data and cockpit voice recorders were secured.
