A Skymark Airlines Boeing 737-800, registration JA737X performing flight BC-705 from Tokyo Haneda to Sapporo (Japan), was descending towards Sapporo when the aircraft received a lightning strike at about 3700 meters/12100 feet MSL. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Sapporo Chitose Airport's runway 01R.

The aircraft remained on the ground until Nov 15th 2025, then positioned to Tokyo Haneda and further to Taipei (Taiwan), returned from Taipei on Dec 2nd 2025 and resumed service on Dec 3rd 2025.

On Dec 12th 2025 Japan's JTSB reported they have opened an investigation into the occurrence stating the aircraft was damaged by lightning strike.
