A Republic Airways Embraer ERJ-175 on behalf of American Airlines, registration N127HQ performing flight AA-4435 from Chicago O'Hare,IL to Washington National,DC (USA), was enroute at FL350 about 50nm northeast of Columbus,OH (USA) when the crew decided to divert to Columbus due to the first officer's windshield, that had cracked in flight. The aircraft landed safely on Columbus' runway 28L about 35 minutes later.

A replacement Embraer ERJ-175 registration N123HQ reached Washington with a delay of about 4.5 hours.

The occurrence aircraft returned to service about 30 hours after landing.

The airline reported a mechanical issue with the windscreen.
