A Delta Airlines Boeing 737-900, registration N940DU performing flight DL-3247 from Atlanta,GA to Raleigh/Durham,NC (USA) with 109 passengers and 6 crew, was on approach to Raleigh/Durham when part of a wing flap separated from the aircraft. The aircraft continued for a safe landing on Raleigh/Durham's runway 23R. The damage was discovered only during post flight inspection.

The lost flap panel have been recovered from a drive way underneath the approach path to Raleigh/Durham.

The FAA reported: "Delta Air Lines informed the FAA that an inspection of Flight 3247, after it landed safely Tuesday night at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, revealed part of a wing flap was missing. The FAA determined the part found on a driveway in Raleigh is from that aircraft and is investigating. The Boeing 737-900 departed from Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport."

The airline reported a portion of the left hand wing's trailing flap was missing.
