An Aeromexico Connect Embraer ERJ-190, registration XA-GAG performing flight AM-2496 from Mexico City to Reynosa (Mexico), was enroute at FL370 about 40nm west of Tampico (Mexico) when the crew decided to divert to Tampico reporting smoke in the cockpit. The aircraft landed safely on Tampico's runway 32 about 20 minutes later.

A replacement Embraer ERJ-190 registration XA-ALP reached Reynosa with a delay of 5:15 hours.

The occurrence aircraft is still on the ground in Tampico about 6 hours after landing.
